	Universal Penetrometer The Universal Penetrometer is employed for testing a wide variety of materials as measured by penetration of weighted needles or cones. Main applications are for bituminous materials. Penetration is read from a 5" (127mm) diameter indicator dial of 0-400 divisions, each representing 0.1mm of penetration. Meets ASTM and AASHTO standards when fitted with proper needle or cone. Ruggedly constructed for accurate, sensitive measurements. The aluminum base has a machined, grooved table with leveling screws and rubber inserts to protect tips of needles and cones. Two stainless steel rods act as support guides for a cast aluminum head with coarse/fine adjustments and a calibrated friction-free plunger mechanism. Indicator dial has instant zero reset. 	Automatic Universal Penetrometer The Automatic Universal Penetrometer is the same as the standard unit, but has a button release mechanism with digital timer to automatically stop the plunger when the preset time from 0.1 to 9.9 sec. expires. Penetration is read from a 5" (127mm) diameter indicator dial of 0-400 divisions, each representing 0.1mm of penetration. Meets ASTM and AASHTO standards when fitted with proper needle or cone. 	Acme Penetrometer Acme Penetrometer Apparatus is used to determine setting times of asphalt binders by measuring the penetration resistance. Suitable for lab and field testing. A binder sample is placed in a container and stored at a specified temperature. It is tested at regular intervals with standard penetration needles. Resistance is plotted to determine initial and final setting times. Penetrometer’s new design makes it easier to operate, more efficient, with a longer gear rack. All needles are one length so settings may remain the same. Loads are applied hydraulically with pressures read on a 200 lbf (890N) capacity gauge graduated in 2 lbf divisions.
