  NCAT Asphalt Field Permeameter Kit

  The Gilson AP-1B NCAT Asphalt Field Permeameter Kit was selected by the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) for its close correlation with laboratory test results. This falling-head permeameter uses Darcy’s Law to determine the rate of water flow through asphalt pavement. The AP-1B permits accurate, on-site estimation of permeability, eliminating the need for coring, patching, and laboratory testing. Corrections to mix and placement procedures can be implemented right away and testing can be completed in just 10—15 minutes by one technician, with no extensive training necessary.

  NCAT Field Permeameter Kit

  The NCAT field permeameter kit is a falling-head permeameter using Darcy’s law to determine rate of water flow through asphalt pavement. This design was selected by the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) for its close correlation with laboratory test results. Testing and subsequent calculations can usually be completed in 10-15 minutes by one technician. The Field Permeameter is a four-tier graduated permeameter. It is constructed of rugged clear acrylic and supplied in two sections. The Alternate Top Section for NCAT Asphalt Permeameter is a larger diameter tier that replaces the two top tiers and permits rapid filling for highly permeable paving mixes.

  Humboldt Field Asphalt Permeameter

  These asphalt permeameters are compact, self-contained, easy-to-use units, which can be used in the field. They are used to test the permeability of a compacted asphalt paving mixture by using the falling head method to determine hydraulic conductivity of saturated 4" or 6" samples. To use, place the specimen inside the metal cylinder, where it is held in place by a latex membrane. The unit is then pressurized by the built in hand pump. The expanding membrane pushes against the outer edge of the sample, filling in voids and preventing flow down the side of the core. The sample is then saturated from the bottom, and 500cc of water is allowed to flow through the sample while being timed. Both permeameters include a 500cc manometer with 15 ft of 0.25" OD water line, built-in hand pump and a pressure gauge.
